Cleaning
Prepare the surface by thoroughly sanding it to remove any loose particles. Fill any holes with a filler. Clean the surface where you will be painting. Make sure the metal is dry and clean. Avoid using chemical cleaners; a soapy solution is sufficient.

Checking
Check the conditions: Will it stay dry today? Make sure not to paint if the temperature is below 10 degrees or if it is too humid. Consider the wind when painting outdoors. Store the wood stain between 5 and 30 degrees.

Painting
Not sure about the color or effect? Try a small area first and wait for the result. If you know what you want, then get to work!
